My name is Ariannita la Gringa, and in today's video, we are going to learn about slang words in English, specifically from my generation, Gen Z.
So what is slang?
Slang words and phrases are very casual, and their meaning is completely different from what the individual words mean.
For example, if I say "Keep your cool, " that does not mean to stay cold.
It literally just means to stay calm.
Slang is always changing too, so some terms like "What's up?" which means hello in English, has been used so much that it's actually an idiom, which means the phrase is totally different from its meaning.
So "What's up?" does not mean, "What's up?" But instead it means hello.
But other slang is just trendy, popping up from music or movies just for a little while.
Just be careful though, because using trendy slang in a formal place like a job interview, well, you might not come across as professional.
