It's the oldest colony, the most populated state, the economic heavyweight, and the reason half of Australia's stereotypes exist.

Obviously.
And yet if you step outside Australia and ask someone about New South Wales, they'll just squint and say, oh, Sydney, right?
Which is technically correct, but deeply insulting.
