tune out 不是"没听见"，是"听见了，但把频道关了"。
来源是收音机调台：tune in 调到这个台，tune out 调走。所以指责的重点不是听力，是主观屏蔽——你人坐在这儿，耳朵开着，脑子调去别处了。
学习者会写成 You didn't listen to me 或 You always ignore me。前者只是陈述事实，没有指责；后者太重，ignore 是明着不理人，是撕破脸的层级。tune out 卡在中间：我知道你不是故意冒犯，但你确实把我当背景音了。
职场里很好用，会上说 I feel like the team tunes me out when I bring this up语气刚刚好。

Phil 这两个词是在把 Claire 的句子接完：I would have died a hero.
结构是 die + 名词/形容词，表示"以某种状态死去"，不加介词：die a hero（死得像个英雄）、die young、die happy、die a rich man。学习者会写 die like a hero——语法没错，但 like 是"像"，暗示他其实不是英雄；不加 like 才是"他就是以英雄的身份死的"。这一个词之差就是 Phil 想要的自我拔高。
同族的还有 marry young、arrive late、be born poor——都是这种"动词直接挂状态"的结构。
更值得学的是接话方式：对方给一个否定判断（You would have died），你不反驳，只补一个词把它接成对自己有利的完整句。
