[train squealing] [bell chiming] [train squealing] [graceful music] [audience applauding] - Hello.
So, hello.
I'm Rachel Syme.
I'm a staff writer at The New Yorker.
And on behalf of the Magazine, I'm thrilled to welcome you all to the 25th Annual New Yorker Festival.
[audience cheering and applauding] So before we begin, I have a little, a few housekeeping notes, a quick reminder to please silence your cell phones and refrain from flash photography.
And if you're inclined to post on social media, and we hope you do, the festival hashtag is #NewYorkerFest.
So our guest this evening is the very talented singer, songwriter, and actor, Sara Bareilles.
[audience cheering and applauding] She has received two Grammy Awards, three Tony Award Nominations, and three Primetime Emmy Award Nominations.
On Broadway, she composed the music and lyrics for "Waitress, " and stepped into the show's lead role on both Broadway and the West End.
