Hi everyone and thank you for coming today, we're very excited to welcome Professor Alexander Chen as part of the 2023 last lecture series hosted by the class marshals.
Last lecture is something that we do here at Harvard Law every year.
It's a tradition where the marshals choose three professors to come and impart some wisdom on the graduating class.
While we have our own reasons for selecting Professor Chen, I'm confident that providing some background on the professor will help explain why he's here speaking today.
Professor Chen is a graduate of Oxford University, Columbia University, and Harvard Law School, where he was the first openly trans editor of the Harvard Law Review.
He clerked on the ninth circuit for the Honorable M. Margaret McCune and in the Southern District of California for the Honorable Gonzalo P. Curio.
Professor Chen has been named one of Forbes 30 under 30 in law and policy and one of the 40 best LGBTQ plus lawyers under 40 by the National LGBTQ + Bar Association.
He also co-founded the National Trans Bar Association and co-authored the trans youth handbook.
Here at Harvard Law professor Chen is the founding director of the LGBTQ + Advocacy Clinic, where he also teaches gender identity, sexual orientation, and the law.
His work focuses on expanding the rights of LGBTQ+ people through impact litigation and policy advocacy.
